(Undated) -- Black bear sightings are becoming more common in Northeast Iowa. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the presence of black bears in Iowa is increasing, mainly due to many of them wandering down from Wisconsin or Minnesota. Black bear activity is expected to spike in late May and June. The DNR advises that the best way to scare off a black bear is to create loud noises from a distance.
