Central Community School District’s Agricultural Educator Recognized with Prestigious Golden Owl Award
Elkader, Iowa– Central Community School District is proud to announce that Meghan Bond has been honored as a Golden Owl Award recipient, recognizing outstanding agricultural educators across Iowa. This award, presented by Nationwide®, the Iowa FFA Foundation, celebrates educators who make a lasting impact on the next generation of agricultural leaders.
In a surprise presentation held at Central High School, Meghan Bond was recognized for their dedication to agricultural education, their students, and the future of Iowa’s farming and ranching communities. This educator has truly planted the seeds of success and cultivated a classroom environment where students can grow and thrive. In attendance for the presentation were Iowa FFA Foundation Executive Director Joshua Remington, Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance Company Manager Ross Hageman, and State FFA Advisor Alan Spencer.
“Mrs. Bond’s passion and dedication has provided an incredible number of opportunities for our students. FFA is active with events all year long, never having an offseason, and Mrs. Bond also teaches a full Agriculture schedule with 11 different classes. Thank you, Mrs. Bond, for your commitment to Central students!” said Aaron Reinhart, 7-12 Principal at Central.
Each year, students, fellow teachers, and community members nominate agricultural educators who go above and beyond in their commitment to education. The Golden Owl Award recognizes educators for their innovation and leadership in the classroom, much like a “Coach of the Year” award for agricultural teachers. These educators don’t just teach about agriculture—they help their students harvest knowledge and reap the rewards of hands-on learning.
As one of seven honorees statewide, Meghan Bond received a $500 cash prize and an engraved plaque. They are now in the running for the grand prize of $3,000 and the coveted title of Iowa Agricultural Educator of the Year, which will be announced at the Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference later this year. This educator is truly outstanding in their field, helping students cultivate bright futures in agriculture.
In conjunction with the Golden Owl Award, Nationwide is also donating $5,000 to the Iowa FFA Foundation to further support agricultural education and the professional growth of students, teachers, and advisors across the state.
