Youth from local FFA chapters also gave presentations on several topics. Clayton Ridge FFA members spoke about animal safety and farm machinery safety. Central FFA members covered topics including lawn care safety, ATV safety, and four-wheeler safety.

A special thank-you goes to Bodensteiner Implement of Elkader for providing a lawn mower, and to T&T Powersports of Elkader for supplying an ATV and a four-wheeler for demonstration purposes. Thanks to Mobile Moma for sharing helpful information on Internet Safety for the students to take home. Also, to the Clayton County Fair Board who has let us use their spacious buildings and facilities for this impactful program.

102 Market Sheep & Goats Weighed for Clayton County Fair

Clayton County 4-H and FFA members enrolled a total of 46 lambs and 56 meat goats at the weigh-in held May 4 at the fairgrounds in National.  These lambs and meat goats are now eligible to compete in the market show at the Clayton County Fair on August 2.   Daily rate-of-gain will be determined on the lambs and goats.  This will be used in the evaluation of the project by the judge at the fair.

There were 15 4-H’ers and FFA members who tagged market lambs this year, which is down 2 youth and down 19 head from last year. 24 youth participated in the goat weigh-in, which is down 1 youth, and down 1 head from 2024. 4 lambs and 16 meat goats were retinal imagined for state fair competition.
