An outdoor cooking contest designed to promote Iowa meat is being planned by the Clayton County Fair with help from the Clayton County Farm Bureau. Contest chairmen, Kristin Oberbroeckling and Ashley Burns state that you don’t have to be an expert chef to participate; you just need to enjoy cooking outdoors with quality Iowa meat. The cookout contest is open to any Iowa resident age 13 years or older.
The Farm Bureau Meat Contest is judged by five judges and the participant can enter in one or all three categories consisting of beef, pork or chicken.
A Cookout Champion will be named and awards up to $500 with second place taking $250 will be presented in each category.
The county contest will be held on Saturday, August 7, at the Clayton County Fairgrounds.
The winner in each meat category will have the chance to compete in the state competition at the Iowa State Fair on August 17, 2021.
