County Releases

On May 1, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 39 year old Cory Johnson of Lewis, IA on a Clayton County Warrant for Probation Violation. Johnson was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held without bond.

On May 2, 2021 at 9:43pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle at the Hwy 18/52 Junction. Deputies arrived on scene and came into contact with 41 year old Dusk Sheaks of Valparaiso, IN. During the investigation, Officer’s suspected Sheaks to be under the influence of illegal narcotics. While Officer’s were speaking to Sheak, he kicked an Elkader Police Officer. He was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations.

On May 5, 2021 at 2:58pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Garber Road and Lynx Ave. Upon further investigation, Deputies determined that Randy Lindner of Guttenberg was operating a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado East on Garber Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. Lindner’s vehicle entered the ditch causing $30,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Lindner was cited for failure to maintain control. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Guttenberg Police Department, Guttenberg Fire Department and the Guttenberg Ambulance.

On May 8, 2021 at 8:19pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Littleport Road near 335th Street. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Dexter Kuehl of Edgewood was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado Northbound on Littleport Road when he lost control. Kuehl’s vehicle entered the ditch and overturned causing $10,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Kuehl was cited for failure to maintain control.

On May 9, 2021 at 6:46pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at 205 S. Benton Street in Garnavillo. Upon further investigation, Deputies learned that an assault had occurred. Deputies arrested 28 year old Henry Berns of Garnavillo. He was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault-3rd Offense.

On May 10, 2021 at 12:09pm, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Washington Street in Farmersburg. Deputies came into contact with 42 year old Shane Hagensick of Farmersburg. Upon further investigation, Hagensick was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with driving while suspended, no insurance, and operation without registration.

On May 12, 2021 at 5:07am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Golden Ave near 165th Street. Upon further investigation, Deputies determined that Billie Jones of Monona was operating a 2017 Jeep Renegade when she struck a deer causing $3,500 damage. No injuries were reported.

On May 14, 2021 at 6:00pm, Clayton County Deputies, Mar-Mac Police and Clayton County Conservation responded to Bloody Run Campground for a disturbance. Deputies and Officer’s came into contact with 41 year old Amy Rodenberg and 46 year old Jeffrey Hazen both of Prairie Du Chien. Upon further investigation, Rodenberg and Hazen were arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail. Hazen was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts and trespassing. Rodenberg was charged with interference with official acts and trespassing.

On May 14, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 35 year old Kaben Schmelzer of West Union on a Clayton County Warrant for failure to appear. Schmelzer was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $500 bond.

On May 16, 2021 at 8:55am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Horseshoe Rd. Deputies determined that Austin Meyer of Colesburg was operating a 2008 Ford Taurus when he lost control. His vehicle entered the ditch causing $7,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Meyer was cited for failure to maintain control.

On May 17, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 26 year old Jamie Betts of Guttenberg on a Clayton County Warrant for Violation of a No Contact Order. Betts was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $750 bond.

On May 18, 2021 at 6:49am, a Clayton County Deputies came upon an accident at the intersection of Highway 52 and Haydn Street in Guttenberg. Upon further investigation, Deputies determined that Nancy Nuehring of Guttenberg was operating a 2016 Ford Escape Southbound on Highway 52. Nuehring was stopped yielding to traffic to turn onto Haydn Street when she was rear ended by a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Micayla Randall of Guttenberg. Nuehring’s vehicle sustained $3,000 damage. Randall’s vehicle sustained $8,000 damage. Both drivers were transported to the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital for minor injuries. Randall was cited for failure to maintain control.

On May 20, 2021 at 8:36pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Highway 52 near the Highway 13 junction. Deputies determined that Tasha Fritz of Garnavillo was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Impala when she struck a deer causing $1,500 damage. No injuries were reported.

On May 22, 2021 at 12:44am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on the Great River Road near 225th Street. Upon further investigation it was determined that Curtis Storla of Harpers Ferry was operating a 2013 F150 when he struck a deer causing $8,000 damage. No injuries were reported.

On May 24, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 57 year old Tracy Ayers of Iowa City on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Ayers was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $10,000 bond.

On May 25, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 31 year old Zachary Moser of Dunkerton on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Moser was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $1,000 bond.

On May 27, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 45 year old Teresa Forbes of Clermont on a Buchanan County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Forbes was transported to the Clayton County Jail where she was later turned over to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 28, 2021 at 5:39pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Colesburg Road near 348th Street. Deputies determined that Chad Ernst of Garber was operating a 1995 Ford Aspire Northbound on Colesburg Road when he lost control. His vehicle entered the ditch and struck a tree causing $4,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Ernst was cited for failure to maintain control.

On May 29, 2021 at 2:49pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a motorcycle vs deer accident on Highway 13 near Chicken Ridge. Deputies determined that Rex Schell of Boone was operating a 2002 Honda Gl1800 when a deer entered the roadway. Schell struck the deer causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle. Schell was transported to Mercy One Hospital and then flown to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. The motorcycle sustained approximately $10,000 damage. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Mercy One Elkader Ambulance, Elkader Fire Department and Clayton County Conservation.

On May 30, 2021, Clayton County Deputies arrested 23 year old Jose Nunez of Postville on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Nunez was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $4,500 bond.

On May 30, 2021 at 5:59pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on the Highway 18 Bridge at Marquette. Upon further investigation it was determined that Ricky Libke of Lansing was operating a 2014 Buick Enclave West on Highway 18. Libke was slowing down due to traffic in a construction zone when he was rear ended by a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Haley Maday of Welcome, MN. Libke’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,000 damage. Maday’s vehicle sustained $10,000 damage. No injuries were reported. The MarMac Police Department assisted at the scene.

On May 30, 2021 at 7:08pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a UTV accident on Colesburg Road near Hilton Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that 30 year old Jason Behel of Anamosa was operating a 2019 Can Am Mav when he lost control. The UTV entered the ditch and overturned causing $200 damage. Behel was subsequently arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with Operating While Intoxicated- 1st Offense, and Failure to Maintain Control. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Garber Fire and First Responders, the Guttenberg Ambulance, Elkader Police Department and the Guttenberg Police Department.

On May 31, 2021 at 4:06am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 76 North of Marquette. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Skylar Otte of Cassville was operating a 2003 Volkswagon Jetta when he fell asleep. His vehicle entered the ditch causing $5,000 damage. No injuries were reported.

On June 1, 2021 Clayton County Deputies arrested 20 year old Hunter Miller and 19 year old Jamarr Tanniehill both of Monona on Clayton County Warrants for Gathering where controlled substances are used, possession of a controlled substance- marijuana and possession of a controlled substance- LSD. Both were transported to the Clayton County Jail where they were held on $5,000 bond.

On June 2, 2021 at 9:27am, Clayton County Deputies received a traffic complaint on High Street in Elkader. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Deputies came into contact with 51 year old Chad Dahling of Elkader. Upon further investigation, Dahling was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with driving while barred and open container.

On June 4, 2021 at 5:09pm, Clayton County Dpeuties responded to a motorcycle accident on the Great River Road near 360th Street. Deputies determined that Christopher Green of Naperville, IL, was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson North on the Great River Road when he lost control causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle. Green was flown from the scene to the University of Iowa Hospitals for treatment of life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

On June 5, 2021 at 11:07pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Grandview Rd near Heron Ave. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Matthew Schattgen of Monticello was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado when he struck a deer causing $5,000 damage. No injuries were reported.
