Prairie du Chien, WI – Crossing Rivers Health has earned the Level IV trauma care classification through the State of Wisconsin’s Trauma Program. Crossing Rivers Health voluntarily participates in the Wisconsin Trauma Care System, demonstrating its commitment to delivering the highest standard of emergency care.
“As a Level IV Trauma Care Facility, we quickly stabilize patients, provide advanced trauma care, and coordinate with higher-level centers for the best outcomes,” said Ben Harris, Emergency Services Director at Crossing Rivers Health. “Every second counts, and we take pride in serving our community with skill, dedication, and compassion.”
Unintentional injuries are the third leading cause of death in Wisconsin. In 2024, Crossing Rivers Health reported 143 injury events to the Wisconsin Trauma Registry. Falls made up 70% of these cases, followed by UTV/motor vehicle crashes and injuries from objects like trees, balls, and chainsaws.
Crossing Rivers Health met all criteria required by Wisconsin Administrative code § DHS 118 Appendix to achieve the Level IV Trauma classification. This was affirmed through a comprehensive application and site visit with clinical experts.
“We congratulate Crossing Rivers Health for achieving this level of trauma care,” says Paula Tran, State Health Officer. “Their voluntary participation in the Wisconsin Trauma System shows their commitment to providing quality trauma care to their community.”
The goal of Wisconsin's Trauma Care System is to reduce death and disability from traumatic injury by providing the best possible care to trauma patients and their families. Classified trauma facilities play a critical role within the inclusive, voluntary Wisconsin Trauma Care System.
