Delaware County Accidents

Delaware County Authorities released information on three separate accidents. Authorities report that on May 26th at 2:48am, 20-year old Greyson John Gardner of Dyersville was operating a 2017 Nissan SUV. Gardner was westbound on 240th Street approaching the intersection with 197th Avenue. Gardner failed to stop at the intersection, the vehicle went into the ditch. Gardner was no longer on the scene when law enforcement arrived. Gardner talked with law enforcement the following evening and stated that he dropped his phone that he was using for GPS and when he reached for it, he failed to stop at the intersection. Gardner was not injured. Damage totaled six-thousand dollars and he was charged with failure to maintain control.


On May 27th at 4:43am, Delaware County Authorities were advised of a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Iowa Highway 3. 81-year old Robert Dean Lanning of Hartford City, Indiana was operating a 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV. Lanning was westbound and stated he swerved to miss an animal in the roadway and hit the cable barrier on the right side of the road. No injuries were reported. Damage totaled five-thousand dollars. Authorities state that Lanning showed signs of dementia and thought he was in Indiana at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation.


On May 22nd at 10:29pm, Delaware County Authorities were advised of a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 20. 68-year old Steven Lee Tupper of Belgium, Wisconsin was operating a 2018 GM Terrain. Tupper was traveling west near Mile Marker 275, when a deer entered the roadway and was struck by the driver’s side front corner causing 15-hundred dollars in damage. Tupper was not injured, and the vehicle was able to be driven away from the scene.
