Demonstrator Assault

On July 22, 2022, at approximately 6:19 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department responded to a fight in progress at Triangle Park, in the corporate limits of McGregor.

During the investigation it was determined that a group of individuals were lawfully demonstrating the recent Supreme Court case reversing Roe v. Wade in Triangle Park.

Ronald L. Paradine, from McGregor, was walking along Main Street, opposite from the demonstrators, when he began voicing his opinions against the demonstrators’ position. As Paradine continued to voice his opinion, Paradine unprovokedly walked across the street, approached one of the demonstrators, and began striking an individual multiples times.

Paradine was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail. A complaint and affidavit was submitted accusing Paradine of Assault (simple misdemeanor). The police department was assisted by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Clayton County Conservation, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
