Dows man charged in connection with a Semi-Tractor Accident in Fayette County

On May 4, 2026, at approximately 1:14 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a Semi vs Tractor accident on White Tail Road near X Avenue, approximately one mile west of Waucoma. After further investigation, it was determined that Adam Douglas Kleiss, age 40 of Fredericksburg, was east bound in a Green 2002 John Deere 8220 Tractor hauling a Green John Deere 1770NT Planter. Kleiss was attempting to make a left hand turn northbound onto a gravel road when he collided with Bryan Keith Varney, age 61 of Dows, who was east bound in a Purple 2018 Kenworth Semi hauling a White 2027 Utility Trailer. Varney had attempted to pass multiple farm vehicles at the same time. Kleiss ended up in the south side ditch. Kleiss reported no injuries. The Tractor is a total loss and the Planter received approximately $1500 in damages. After the collision, Varney entered the north side ditch, crossed the roadway, and ended in the south side ditch with the trailer blocking both lanes of traffic. Varney reported no injuries. The Semi and Trailer are a total loss. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Waucoma Fire Department, Waucoma First Responders, Gunderson Ambulance, and Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement. Varney was cited for Unsafe Passing.
