Elkader Council

The Elkader City Council approved leasing a portion of land to the Elkader Depot Museum Project for storage and additional tracking.

The Council also approved a resolution approving a local match of around 10-thousand each year for five years for the application of Mobile Track Solutions to the Iowa Economic Development Authority High Quality Jobs Program.


Elkader City Council Proceedings

The Elkader City Council met on Monday, January 23, 2023 in regular session at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, with Mayor Josh Pope presiding. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and roll call was taken. Roll call: Present: Peggy Lane, Tony Hauber, Randy Henning, Deb Schmidt and Eric Grau.


A claim for $47.65 for Regional Medical was added to the claims. Henning moved to approve the consent agenda. Hauber seconded the motion.

Public comments No public comments were received.


Discussion (possible decision) with representatives from the Elkader Depot Museum Project regarding storage and additional trackage Representatives from the Elkader Depot Museum Project were in attendance to share new ideas and request the lease be amended to add more space. The Council was aggregable to the plan so Henning moved to proceed with this lease amendment. Schmidt seconded the motion.

Approval of Resolution 2023-04 - A resolution approving local match for the application of Mobile Track Solutions to the Iowa Economic Development Authority High Quality Jobs Program Lane moved to approve Resolution 2023-04. Henning seconded the motion.

Continue discussion of FY 23-24 budget: Staff continued reviewing the budget with the Council.


Questions and Concerns from the City Council A question was asked about the status of the search for the Main Street Director; a concern was passed on that the downtown alleys needed more sand over the weekend; a concern was passed on that residents living in the upper story apartments downtown do not like that the string lights come on at 4:00 a.m. The Council liaison to the MSE board will speak to the board about this. The suggestion is to not have the string lights come on in the morning. A compliment regarding the recent snow removal efforts was shared.


Henning moved to adjourn the meeting. Schmidt seconded the motion. Council voted unanimously to adjourn. Mayor Pope declared the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
