Garage Fire

On Monday May 17, 2021 at 04:16pm the Guttenberg Fire Department was dispatched to 29225 Garber Road for a garage fire. Upon arrival of the first fire personnel, they advised that it was a fully involved detached garage. The fire department began an offensive fire attack to contain the fire.

Once under control the Fire Department remained on scene extinguishing hot spots until 08:00pm. There are no reported injuries and the garage is a total loss.

After an initial investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. The homeowner was burning trash near the garage and an unknown item burst and sent hot embers against the garage. Due to the construction material of the garage it ignited fairly easily and go out of control quickly.

The Guttenberg Fire Department was assisted by the Garber Fire Department, Guttenberg Ambulance, Garber/Elkport First Responders, Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Friedlein Excavating.
