Grant County Accident Reports

ONE VEHICLE ROLLOVER 

On December 18, 2024 at 7:40 A.M., 16 year old Jaevis Strand, of Boscobel, was driving a 2005 Chevy Colorado west on Old C Rd., in Watterstown Township. Strand lost control of the truck on the snow covered road, which caused the truck to slide into the south ditch and roll onto it's passenger side. Strand was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. The vehicle sustained damage and had to be towed from the scene by Terry's Tire and Tow out of Boscobel. The Boscobel Police Department also Assisted the Sheriff's Office at the scene.  


ACK-KNIFE TRUCK DUE TO SNOW COVERED ROAD 

On December 18, 2024 at approximately 9:40 A.M., 64 year old David Fischer, of Boscobel, was driving his 2021 Ford F350 north on Tower Rd in Marion Township. Fischer had a fifth wheel trailer attached to the truck and as Mr. Fischer was driving down a steep hill on Tower Rd, the weight of the trail and its load pushed the truck into the ditch, causing the truck and trailer to jack-knife, due to the snow covered and slippery road. The truck received moderate damage and the trailer had minor damage. Fischer was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Terry's Tire and Tow out of Boscobel assisted at the scene.  


VEHICLE LEAVES ROAD AND STRIKES GUIDE WIRE/EMBANKMENT 

On December 18th at approximately 2:51pm, the Sheriff's Office was notified of a one-vehicle crash on County Highway D at the intersection with Center Road in Smelser Township. During the investigation, it was found that Pedro Chavez, age 19 of Peosta, IA, was operating his 2015 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on County H, when Chavez drove off of the south side of the road and entered the ditch. Chavez continued through the ditch and struck a guy wire for a utility pole with the front of his vehicle. The vehicle then struck an embankment on the west side of Center Road, likely causing the vehicle to become airborne and strike another embankment on the east side of the road. Chavez had been wearing his seatbelt and multiple airbags deployed in the vehicle. Chavez sustained minor injuries, but refused transport by EMS.  

The vehicle received severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. Chavez was cited for Operating without a Driver's License and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance. Chavez was also issued a written warning for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle. The Cuba City Fire Department, Southwest Health EMS, Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative, and Automotion Towing assisted at the scene.  


MINOR CRASH 

On December 19, 2024 at 5:55 A.M., Joshua Webber, 31 of Fennimore, was driving a 2022 GMC Sierra, west on Breezy Hill Rd in Hickory Grove Township. Due to the snow covered and slippery surface, Webber was unable to negotiate a curve in the road. The truck entered the north ditch, and struck several trees. The truck received moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Collision Specialists. Webber was not injured in the crash.  


ONE VEHICLE CRASH 

On December 19, 2024 at 10:45 A.M., Zachary Scovell, 36 of La Crosse, was driving his 2022 Ford F-150 north on Waltz Ln in Marion Township. As Scovell turned north onto Boebel Rd, he lost control on the snow covered road and drove into the west ditch. Scovell struck some trees in the ditch before his truck came to rest. The truck received heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene by Terry's Tire and Tow out of Boscobel. Scovell was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. 


Garbage Truck vs. School Bus 

On December 20, 2024, at approximately 7:10 a.m., 37 year old Andrew McQuirk of Boscobel, was traveling south on Highway 61 near the intersection of Hy-Point Rd, in North Lancaster Township, in a Town and Country Sanitation garbage truck. The road conditions were snow covered and slippery, and as McQuirk approached Hy-Point Rd., a Lancaster School bus was stopped near the intersection to pick up a student. The school bus had its emergency lights and stop sign deployed. McQuirk attempted to stop but was unable to, due to the road conditions. As a result, the garbage truck slid into the back of the school bus. At the time, the bus was carrying four students. Lancaster EMS responded to the scene, and one student was transported to Grant Regional Health Center for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. McQuirk was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Lancaster EMS, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
