Grant County Authorities Release Information on Motorcycle Accident, Vehicle Theft, and Property Damage Accident

Motorcycle Crash w/ Injuries 

On August 28, 2026, at 9:41 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a motorcycle accident with reported injuries, on Sandy Hook Road, near Rock Cut Road, in Jamestown Township.  

When deputies arrived on scene, it was determined Dustin Schemehorn, 36, from Benton, was traveling east on Sandy Hook Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Schemehorn was not wearing protective gear and sustained serious injuries. 

Schemehorn was flown from the scene via helicopter to UW-Madison for further treatment.  

It is believed speed, possible impairment were factors in the crash.  

Schemehorn was placed under arrest and cited for OWI 3rd, and operating without a valid motorcycle endorsement. This incident remains under investigation.  

Assisting with this incident were: Jamestown First Responders, Jamestown Fire Department, Dickeyville EMS, Medflight, the Wisconsin DNR, and Donnie's Tire and Auto.  

VEHICLE THEFT RESULTS IN OWI ARREST 

On August 29, 2026, at 9:19 P.M., the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a complaint of a stolen vehicle out of Potosi, WI.  The complainant, Angela Udelhoven, advised her 2015 White Chevrolet TRAX was stolen from a parking lot near the Potosi Brewery.  

At around that same time, the Sheriff's Office received multiple traffic complaints on a white SUV in the Potosi area that was operating all over the road and into the ditch.  

Deputies located and stopped the stolen vehicle just after 9:30 P.M., on Hwy 61 near Cty B. The vehicle also matched the vehicle reported from the multiple traffic complaints.  

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Sean Soler, 29, of Dubuque. Following an investigation, Soler was arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail for OWI 2nd Offense, and Taking and Driving Vehicle without Owner's Consent.  

Vehicle Crash w/Property Damage 

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 5:49 AM, the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one-vehicle crash on Hwy 35/61 north of Kelly Lane, in Paris Township.  

When deputies arrived on scene, they learned a 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by Emma Hastings, 21, of Dubuque IA, fell asleep. As a result, the vehicle traveled off the right shoulder into a ditch and traveled approx 50 yards, where it struck the guardrail and broke approximately 9 posts before coming to rest. Hastings was picked up from the scene and left without reporting the crash. Hastings' vehicle suffered disabling damage and was removed from the scene by Donnie's Towing of Dickeyville.  

The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Jamestown First Responders, Dickeyville Fire and Dickeyville EMS.  

Contact was able to be made with Hastings. She reported no injuries, but was cited for No Insurance, Failure to notify Police of an Accident, and Inattentive Driving.
