Grant County Authorities release information on three accidents, including a hit and run

Car vs Semi - No Injuries 

On Monday, July 6, 2026, at 5:43 AM, the Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a car vs. semi-truck crash on USH 151, in the north bound lanes of the construction zone, near mile marker 5, in Jamestown Township.  

When the deputy arrived on scene, he learned Susan M. Weidemann (37), of Dubuque, IA, was traveling north on USH 151 in her 2021 Honda Accord, when she attempted to use the Badger Road on ramp (which was under construction) as a passing lane. As a result, Weidemann encountered traffic cones and attempted to merge to the right, causing her to crash into Marquell A. Horton (33), of Waterloo, IA, who was driving a 2021 Freightliner semi pulling a trailer.  

The traffic barrier on the rear of the semi-trailer caused disabling damage to Weidemann's Honda Accord. The trailer received minor damage. Neither Weidemann nor Horton were injured in the crash. Beidler's towing of Dubuque assisted at the scene.  

The crash remains under investigation. 

Hit and Run (Property Damage) - Driver Fled the Scene 

On 07/08/2026, at approximately 11:06 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a vehicle that struck the guardrail on USH 151 at the northbound Exit 5 off ramp in Jamestown Township. Along with Grant County Sheriff's Deputies, the Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown First Responders, and Dickeyville EMS were dispatched to the scene.  

When deputies arrived on scene, witnesses to the crash informed them they saw a 2017 Dodge Journey, travel down the embankment to the exit and back onto the roadway, continue under the over pass, and onto Old Highway Road for several hundred yards. Witnesses informed deputies the vehicle came to a stop perpendicular to the roadway and partially on the curb. Witnesses reported the vehicle then began smoking and caught fire. Witnesses informed deputies, the driver exited the vehicle prior to the fire, and fled the scene on foot through a farm field.  

Responding units extinguished the fire, and a search began to try and locate the driver. Deputies utilized a K9 and tracked the driver for several miles, but were unable to locate him. Further investigation identified the driver as 45-year-old Jimmy Martin, of Clinton, Iowa. Contact was made with Martin the following day, and confirmed he was the driver, and was not injured in the crash.  

Martin was cited for failure to notify police of an accident, hit- and run property adjacent to highway, and failure to keep vehicle under control. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Dickyville EMS, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown First Responders, and Donnie's Tire and Auto of Dickeyville. 

One-Vehicle Crash - No Injuries 

On July 9, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one-vehicle crash on Hwy 80 near the intersection of Bollant Road, south of the Village of Livingston, in the Town of Clifton. Along with deputies, the Livingston Fire Department, Livingston First Responders, and Montfort EMS were dispatched to the scene. 

When deputies arrived on scene, they learned Ethan Mulderink, (16), of Dodgeville, was traveling north on Hwy 80, in his 2019 Ford F150, when he lost control of the truck and drove into the ditch on the east side of the roadway. The F150 struck a culvert and became disabled. Mulderink was not injured in the crash.  

The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Livingston First Responders, Montfort EMS, Livingston Fire Department, and Haase Towing of Montfort.
