Two Vehicle Crash in Harrison Township
On May 2, 2025, at approximately 9:00pm, the Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash on County Highway O near Rockville Road, in the Town of Harrison. Through an investigation by Grant County Sheriff's Deputies, it was discovered Daniel Kerkenbush, 77, of Potosi was traveling westbound in a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. Kerkenbush was stopping due to two deer being in the roadway. Chakayla Stanek, 28, of Mineral Point, was also traveling westbound in a 2017 Ford Escape. Stanek informed deputies she also saw the deer, but by the time she saw the other vehicle was stopped in the roadway, it was too late and her vehicle collided with the rear end of Kerkenbush's vehicle. Stanek was not injured, but Kerkenbush was transported to Southwest Health Center by Potosi EMS.
Stanek was cited for Inattentive Driving.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted with this incident by the Potosi Fire Department, Potosi EMS, and Bennet's Automotive Service LLC.
Truck crashes into house in Potosi Township
On Sunday, May 4, 2025, at approximately 8:30pm, the Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified that a truck had crashed into a house on Highway 61, in the Town of Potosi.
When deputies arrived on scene, they learned Andrew Chapman, 34, of Potosi, was operating a 2001 F350. Chapman drove through the parking lot of the Midway Pub and then drove down a private driveway behind the tavern. Chapman informed deputies that his brakes failed, which caused him to crash through a wall of the home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the crash.
Chapman displayed signs of impairment and after an investigation, he was arrested for operating while under the influence, 2nd offense, and cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
