Fatal Tractor Incident
On August 16, 2024 at about 3:24 PM the Grant County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a tractor accident at 8620 Irish Ridge Rd, Cassville, WI. The initial report was that a male had been trying to move a tree with a tractor and somehow, the tractor ended up on top of him. The incident was not witnessed. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found the young male to be deceased.
The investigating deputies learned that 17-year-old Race Landon, of that address, had been operating a Ford 8N tractor. It appeared as though he had been trying to pull a tree that had fallen into the driveway using a chain connected to both the tree and the rear of the tractor. While doing this, the front end of the tractor came up and the tractor went over, backwards, with Landon on it. The tractor came down on Landon, causing fatal injuries. A family member who was coming to the house discovered the accident and called 9-1-1.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Cassville Fire Department, Cassville EMS, B&M Towing of Bloomington as well as Donnie's Tire & Auto Towing of Dickeyville, as well as a member of the Platteville Fire Department who happened to be in the area and heard the call.
Semi Crash with no injuries
On 08/17/2024 at approximately 6:09PM, The Grant County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single semi crash just off the Highway 151 Exit 1 south bound ramp.
Mykhailo Klym, age 31 of Carpentersville, IL, was southbound on the ramp in a 2014 Freightliner Semi and trailer owned by Ksenia Logistics. As Klym came down the ramp, he failed to negotiate the curve and lost control of the vehicle. The semi entered the ditch, traveled down an embankment approximately 100 feet, before coming to a rest in a grove of trees. Klym was uninjured in the crash, and the semi received moderate disabling damage.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Jamestown Fire Department and Wenzel Family Towing.
TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN MARIJUANA AND OAR ARREST
On August 15, 2024, at 9:38 A.M., a Grant County Deputy was parked in a field drive along Cth T in Hickory Grove Township, when an east bound vehicle on Cth T, pulled to the shoulder and stopped. The driver of this vehicle, Roxanne Abraham, 53 of Dodgeville, stopped to look at her phone for directions to a residence in the area.
When Abraham continue driving, she didn't see the east bound vehicle coming up behind her. Abraham made a U turn on Cth T and almost struck the east bound vehicle passing her. A traffic stop was conducted and while the deputy was speaking with Abraham, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of Abraham's vehicle.
As a result, Abraham was arrested for Operating after Revocation, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and cited for no insurance.
This matter will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney's Office.
Motorcycle Crash
On August 17, 2024 at 8:50 AM, the Grant County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a report of a motorcycle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18 and State Highway 35.
Tanner Weichers, age 23 of Ackley, Iowa, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 18 on a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle with three other motorcycles. The front two motorcycles went to make a right turn onto State Highway 35, Tanner was unaware of the turn, applied the brakes to slow to make the turn, lost control, laid the motorcycle down on the right side. Tanner and the motorcycle continued east on U.S. Highway 18 and the motorcycle struck the U.S. Highway 18/State Road 35 road sign before coming to a rest.
Weichers was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injuries.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by West Grant EMS and Bloomington Fire Department.
Motorcycle vs Car Crash
On 08/17/24 at approximately 7:22 PM, the Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a car vs motorcycle crash with serious injuries at the intersection of Hwy 61 and Cty B.
EMS and fire units were dispatched to the scene, along with sheriff deputies. The initial investigation of the crash showed that Trevor A H King, 27, of Platteville, was traveling southbound on Hwy 61 on his 2003 Harley Davidson in the Township of Potosi. Paige K Adams, 25, of Platteville, was riding as a passenger. At the same time, a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jacob F Marshall, 25, of Cuba City, was westbound on Cty B, approaching Hwy 61. Marshall did not stop at the stop sign and failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.
As a result, the motorcycle collided with the car and King and Adams were ejected from the motorcycle. Both King and Adams sustained serious injuries. King was transported by Potosi EMS to Grant Regional Health Center. Adams was transported by Potosi EMS to Grant Regional Health Center. Both King and Adams were later transferred to other hospitals and remain in critical condition.
No injuries were reported by Marshall or his three passengers. The Potosi Fire Department, Potosi EMS, Lancaster Fire Department, and Bennett's Towing assisted at the scene.
Neither motorcycle riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Motorcycle versus Truck with serious injuries
On 08/18/24 at approximately 4:37 pm, the Sheriff's Office was notified of a two vehicle crash with serious injuries on Hwy 61 at the intersection with County B.
Emergency units were dispatched to the scene, along with Sheriff deputies. The preliminary investigation shows that Cameron A. Schaefer, age 22, of Dickeyville, was traveling on his 2021 Harley Davidson Street Glide, southbound on Hwy 35/61 in the Township of Potosi. Jadyn J. Noonan, age 23 of Dickeyville, was riding as a passenger. As Cameron approached County Road B, a GMC Sierra truck driven by Gavin L. Fishnick, 17, of Barneveld, failed to yield from the stop sign.
The motorcycle collided with the truck and Cameron and Jadyn were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. Cameron was transported by Potosi EMS to Grant Regional Health Center. Jadyn was transported by Potosi EMS to Southwest Health. Both of them were later transferred to other hospitals and remain in critical condition.
No injuries were reported by Gavin or his juvenile passenger. The Potosi Fire Department, Potosi EMS, Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, and Arrow Towing assisted at the scene.
Neither motorcycle riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Truck vs Pole Crash
At 12:52 PM, the Grant County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center was notified of a vehicle vs. power pole on S Fountain Street and U.S. Highway 18.
Jaron Haase, age 22 of Montfort, was traveling in a 2020 Ford F150 and made a left turn from U.S. Highway 18 onto S Fountain Street, reached for his wallet on the passenger side of the vehicle, and in doing so struck a light pole on the east side of the roadway with the front passenger side bumper and tire. The vehicle sustained disabling damage.
The vehicle was removed by Haase Service and Towing. There was minor damage to the power pole.
