Helena R. Davis of Volga

Helena R. Davis, 72, of Volga, Iowa, died on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025, with her family by her side, after a brief illness.

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington with Vicar Dorothee Caspari officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.

Interment: Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga, Iowa.

Helena Rose Grocholski was born September 24, 1952, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Wasyl & Rosa (Hrynczyszyn) Grocholski. She was raised in Elkader and graduated from Central Community High School in the class of 1970. She continued her education in cosmetology in Decorah. Helena worked in several area factories and lived at rural Elgin with her son, Brian. She then worked at several restaurants as a waitress and cook. It was at this time she developed her skills as an excellent cook and baker. Helena was united in marriage to Paul Vernon Davis on July 23, 1993, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived at rural Volga and then moved to town in 2002. Helena and Paul purchased L.D.’s Lounge in Volga and operated it for several years. She later did housekeeping and elder care for others in the community. Helena enjoyed horseback riding in her early years. She also enjoyed finding a bargain at a garage sale, cooking, baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Helena is survived by her Husband: Paul Davis of Volga;

Son: Brian (Jenni) Grocholski of Lamont ;

4 Grandchildren : Billy (Ashley) Grocholski of Titonka,

Brandon Grocholski (Sidney) of Strawberry Point,

Morgan (Eric) Heims of Edgewood &

Brantley Grocholski of Lamont;

7 Great Grandchildren;

Sister: Kathy Grocholski of Volga &

Several Nieces and Nephews.

Helena was preceded in death by her grandmother; parents and 2 brothers: Myron & Jim Grocholski.
