High-Speed Death Suit

Updated: Mar 23

A Delaware County jury has ordered the city of Manchester to pay $4.25-million to the family of a Colesburg man who died during a high-speed chase with a Manchester Police Officer. 31-year old Augustin “Gus” Morman died in January 2021 from injuries sustained when he crashed his motorcycle on December 10th, 2020. Morman attempted to flee from a traffic stop on along Highway 20 near Manchester. Sandra and Daniel Morman, the parents of Augustin, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Manchester and officer James Wessells, who has since retired. The Mormans alleged that Wessells used “intentional, excessive and/or reckless force” during the chase, which lead to the death of their son. Wessells is responsible for an additional 10-thousand dollars in punitive damages.
