Joanne Mary Recker, 93, of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on July 16, 1931, in Temple Hill; the daughter of Basil and Florence (Orr) Gavin. Joanne was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cascade. She then earned her nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Freeport, Illinois, in 1952, and became a registered nurse.

On July 7, 1954, Joanne was united in marriage to William H. Recker at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Temple Hill. Four children were born to this union. The couple farmed west of Hopkinton and in Buck Creek. Joanne also worked as a nurse at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello until her retirement.

Joanne was a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church. She was known for being independent and quick- witted. Joanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was so happy to be able to meet her new great-great-grandchild before her passing.

Survivors include her four children, Mark Recker, Robert (Diane) Recker, William (Carma) Recker, and Lynne (John) Frandson; eight grandchildren, Angie (Parker) Lazenby, Cody (Jessica Perez) Recker, Bryan Recker, Brittany (Sean) Steffen, Brett (Allison) Recker, Breanna (Zach Muller) Recker, Tera Frandson, and Toni (Micah Parshall) Frandson; 13 great-grandchildren, Morgan (Dakoyta Kelsey) Lazenby, Keely Recker, Lane Recker, Ella Recker, Braxton Recker, Brylynn Recker, Brendall Recker, Harper Steffen, Kennedy Steffen, Karter Steffen, Holden Steffen, Reese Recker, and Sutton Recker; and one great-great-grandson, Riggen Kelsey.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Basil & Florence; her husband, William H Recker; six siblings, Alan, Dick, Patrick, Maurice, Janie (Joe) Stanton, and Maureen (Jack) Hayes; and her great-great grandchild, Parker James Kelsey.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center and Above & Beyond Hospice for their unwavering care, kindness, and dedication to Joanne during her stay.
