A second change of venue request for a Waukon man accused of killing his estranged wife has been rejected. Brandon Kasemeier faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Jamie Kasemeier at her home in Waukon in January of last year. Kasemeier fled to Colorado after the incident and was later arrested. This is the second request made by Kasemeiers attorneys to move the trial due to concerns he would not receive a fair trial. The first motion was denied in January. His attorneys filed another motion in April based on a survey of a previous jury pool by a private investigator. First District Judge Alan Heavens has denied the request for a second time, ruling that Kasemeier failed to show that a “substantial number” of potential jurors hold fixed opinions on the case because of pretrial publicity. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 20th in Allamakee County.
