LaPorte City Woman Charged in Connection With Two-Vehicle Accident in Fayette County

On July 28^th, 2026, at approximately 4:06 PM, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 3 (60^th Street) & Y Ave in Fayette County, IA. Upon Deputy arrival, it was determined that a red 2019 RAM 1500 was travelling northbound on Y Ave and failed to yield the right of way and struck a white 2021 Honda Odyssey driven by Rachel Mills, 33 of Oelwein, that was travelling westbound on 60^th Street. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles involved were disabled and considered totaled. Kale Smith (age 23) of La Porte City, IA received a citation for Fail to Obey a stop sign & yield right of way and Use electronic communication device. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Oran First Responders, Oran Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Alliant Energy, ITC Holdings, B&L Body, and Sheetz Towing.
