Multiple fire departments are currently fighting a fire at the Agri Star meat packing plant at 220 West Street in Postville, Iowa.
The fire is creating a large smoke plum that is currently drifting to the southwest of the city of Postville.
Residents should stay aware of changes in air quality through out the city. Emergency Management is currently monitoring this situation.
Changes in air quality conditions in the area will be disseminated through local radio, television and social media.
From Fayette County Emergency Management--
The smoke is going towards Fayette County and will potentially cause some visibility issues mainly in the Clermont area.
The large plume of smoke may reduce visibility while causing a decline in air quality today and a Smoke Advisory is in effect for Fayette County.
If smoke becomes noticeable:
* Limit prolonged outdoor activity, especially if you have asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.
* Keep windows and doors closed if smoke is heavy.
* If driving, slow down if visibility is reduced.
* Check on older adults, young children, and others who may be more sensitive to smoke.
