On Friday afternoon, November 10th, 2023 at approximately 3:30pm, 38-year-old Nathan Russell was formally charged on 3 counts; Murder in the First Degree a Class A Felony, Going Armed with Intent a Class D Felony, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm a Class D Felony, for the shooting death of 48-year-old Aaron McAtee of Monticello on Tuesday November 7th, 2023. Russell appeared for his initial appearance before the District Court Judge via video call from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at 10:00am on Saturday morning. Russell remains in law enforcement custody while recovering from injuries sustained during his apprehension. Bail was set at a cash only one million dollars. The investigation remains on-going.
(Monticello, IA) -- Services will be held this week for the man who was shot and killed while working at the Fareway grocery store in Monticello [[ mahn-dih-SELL-oh ]]. The funeral for 48-year-old Aaron McAtee will be held Wednesday morning at the Berndes [[ BURN-dees ]] Center in Monticello. Police say the man suspected of killing McAtee is still hospitalized, shot by deputies during a shootout.
