Murder Charge-Update

From the Iowa Department of Public Safety Website--

Willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation kill Jami Kasemeier.

On or about January 21, 2024, Brandon Kasemeier did commit murder in the 1st degree by willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation kill Jami Kasemeier.

On January 21, 2024, a family relative of Jami Kasemeier requested that the Waukon Police Department conduct a welfare check on Jami, after not being able to get ahold of her. The family member who requested the welfare check also reported a recent phone conversation with Jami where it appeared that there was a dispute between Jami and her estranged husband, Brandon Kasemeier, and that during the call, Brandon had apparently taken the phone away while the family member was on the call with Jami and the phone call subsequently disconnected. The family later reported that they had heard back from Brandon while using Jami's phone and he "sounded off" and would not allow them to speak to Jami and Jami could not be heard in the background. The family member reported that they had not heard from Jami since the disconnected call.

The Waukon Police Department was unable to located Jami.

On January 22, 2024, Brandon and Jami both failed to report to work, as scheduled. Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for Brandon's residence located at 103 1st Ave SW in Waukon. Officers had to force entry into the residence. During the search of the residence, Jami was found deceased inside with extensive injuries to her face. An examination of the scene found an empty handgun case, as well as several fired .22 caliber cartridge casings, and unfired cartridge casings.

On the afternoon of January 22, 2024, Brandon was located by law enforcement in Loveland, Colorado, staying at a local hotel and driving one of the vehicles registered to himself and Jami. Inside the vehicle, officers located a .22 revolver under the driver's side seat.
