Oelwein Police Charge 17-year old with OWI and Release Information on Two Other Incidents

At 11:28pm on August 2, 2026, Oelwein Police detained a 17-year-old male juvenile after responding to a single vehicle accident in the 100 block of E Charles St.  After an investigation it was found that the juvenile was driving while under the influence of alcohol, leading to the accident where upon turning eastbound onto E Charles St from 1st Ave SE, they failed to properly negotiate the turn and drove upon the sidewalk, striking and knocking over a streetlight owned by the City of Oelwein.  The vehicle suffered disabling damage, with estimated total damage of $4,000.  The estimated damage to the streetlight is pending assessment of replacement costs.  There were no injuries reported.   The juvenile was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense) - Serious Misdemeanor and was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.  The juvenile was released to the custody of their guardians, and the matter has been referred to Juvenile Court.  Oelwein Police were assisted by Midwest Collision and Towing.


At 8:14pm on August 1, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested James Daniel Mull, 44, of Oelwein.  Mull was arrested on 20 Buchanan County warrants for original charges of two counts of Eluding (Speed 25 or More Over Limit) - Class D Felony, Driving While Barred - Aggravated Misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Simple Misdemeanor, and 16 additional driving offenses.  This arrest was made in the 100 block of 2nd Ave NW.


At 3:05am on July 30, 2026, Oelwein Police arrested Maxwell Rolon, 55, of Oelwein.  Rolon was arrested on an Iowa Department of Corrections warrant for an original charge of Violation of Parole.  This arrest was made in the 1300 block of Industrial Park Road.
