On May 22, 2023 at approximately 2:53 PM the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a single vehicle accident on Canoe Road. Upon deputies' arrival, it was learned that George Fettkether 72, of Clermont was driving northbound on Canoe road when he lost consciousness. His vehicle than crossed the southbound traffic lane, struck a utility pole and went into the ditch. The utility pole broke in half causing a live electrical line to fall on the ground. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before law enforcement and medical personnel arrived. Minor injuries were reported and the vehicle was considered a total loss. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Clermont Fire and Ambulance, Torkelson Motors, Alliant Energy and Fayette County Conservation. The accident remains under investigation.
