Snowplow Drivers Recognition Day

December 2, 2024 Snowplow Drivers Recognition Day

Lancaster, WI – As Wisconsin prepares for another winter season, Grant County proudly joins the  statewide recognition of snowplow drivers who provide an essential service by ensuring the safety  and accessibility of roadways during severe weather. December 2, 2024 has been set for this  recognition.

County and municipal snowplow operators across Wisconsin work tirelessly, often in challenging  conditions unique to their profession, to maintain safe travel routes. These dedicated professionals  allow residents to access jobs, businesses, medical services, and recreational destinations during  winter. Their efforts are part of a more than century-old partnership between Wisconsin's 72  county highway departments and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to  maintain and enhance the state’s highway system through snowplowing, salting, and liquid  applications.

Snowplow drivers also contribute to public safety through innovative practices developed in  collaboration with WisDOT. Using shared resources to test new tools and establish best practices,  Grant County snowplow drivers help ensure that 2,128 miles of state, county, and local roadways  remain clear and safe each winter.

“Winter maintenance is about protecting lives,” said Jon Knautz, Grant County Highway  Commissioner. “Our snowplow drivers work around the clock, often sacrificing time with their  families, to prioritize the health and safety of our communities. Their dedication and hard work  are truly commendable.”

Residents are reminded of their crucial role in winter safety. Please drive cautiously during winter  conditions, slow down, and give snowplows the space to operate effectively. These small actions  can help protect the drivers' lives who work tirelessly to keep everyone safe.

Today, Grant County stands with communities across Wisconsin in celebrating snowplow drivers'  ongoing commitment to public safety. Their contributions are not just recognized but deeply  appreciated, and we express our heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering dedication to keeping our  roads safe!
