UPDATE: 8:30 pm – 9/3/2021 The subject at large has been identified as Jon Moreland age 41. Moreland has outstanding arrest warrants out of Iowa and multiple felony arrest warrants out of Wisconsin. Moreland is still at large.
UPDATE: 6:15 pm-9/3/2021 The search for this male subject and identification efforts are continuing.
Deputies were investigating a suspicious person/situation that had been reported by concerned residents in the area. As deputies approached the suspicious individual, he fled from deputies in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, and later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a remote area of Glenwood Township.
We continue to encourage everyone to take safety and security measures for their homes, properties, and vehicles as this subject may be searching for shelter and/or transportation. Deputies will continue to patrol the area throughout the evening and overnight hours. If you notice anything suspicious, please call 911!

ORIGNAL RELEASE: The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office would like the public to be on the lookout for a subject at large. Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle at a public fishing access on 133rd Ave (East of Decorah in Glenwood Township) and a male subject fled as deputies approached the vehicle. The subject was seen fleeing into a very secluded and wooded area in Glenwood township near the Trout River State Fishing Access. The subject at large is a white male, last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark colored t-shirt and baseball hat.
DO NOT TRY TO APPROACH THIS SUBJECT!! Please call 911 immediately if you see him or have a tip to his whereabouts. Please lock the doors to your homes and vehicles and also take keys out of your vehicles! We will continue to keep you updated on this situation as the investigation continues.
There was another subject involved who has been taken into custody for multiple outstanding felony arrest warrants out of Wisconsin. The Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR and Winneshiek County Emergency Management, Decorah Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and Crawford County Sheriff's Office, along with the assistance of the Decorah Volunteer Fire Department are aggressively searching for the subject with assistance of drone imagining and K9 tracking
