On Monday, December 22nd, a contractor working for the City, will be doing routine cleaning of some city sewer lines.
The area of town will be from West Bridge Street south and include Reimer Street addresses.
A contractor with a large truck and reel system will place a hose into the sewer line and run it from one manhole to the next. Then water is used to wash grit and sand back to the truck. Sometimes roots are found in the line and more aggressive cleaning procedures need to be used in an attempt to successfully clean the line. Overall, general cleaning is uneventful and you will not know it was done.
At the same time, often a camera is run through the main to collect information for the City about the condition of the sewer mains.
The most common thing you may notice is a gurgling in your toilet. This is caused when the cleaning line passes by your service line.
-> -> Make sure all traps are wet. Checks areas of your house that are not used as frequently such as a drain in the basement. Make sure you pour water down all drains.
-> -> It is helpful to keep your toilet lids shut also.
