The Iowa State Patrol reports that one person is dead following an ATV crash in Fayette County

(Fayette County, IA) -- The Iowa State Patrol is sharing details on a deadly ATV crash that happened in Fayette County on Friday. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 160th Street and T Avenue, near Sumner, around 4:15 p.m. Authorities say 84-year-old Veryl Alfred Burghardt was operating a four-wheeler that wrecked into a ditch. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Iowa DOT says there have been nine fatal ATV crashes across the state this year.
