The MFL MarMac School Board approves District Budget

The MFL MarMac School Board approved the District Budget for the upcoming school year. The tax rate will decrease 27-cents to $12.45-per-thousand.
Tracy Decker resigned as High School Assistant Football Coach and High School Boys Track Coach. Greg Wolff resigned as Custodian, Mindy Clubb as High School Musical Assistant, Alicie Grove from Food Service and Jaydeane Berns as SODA Advisor.
The Board approved the transfer of David Corlett from 5th grade teacher to Middle School Social Studies Teacher.

April 13, 2026
The MFL MarMac Community School District held a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors on April 13, 2026, in the McGregor Schoolhouse.
President, Dr. Jonathon Moser, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present at roll call were Roberta Hass (via phone due to family obligation), Aaron Schroeder (via phone due to family obligation), Danielle Schlake, Tonya Meyer, Joshua Grau and Marti Post. Also present were Superintendent, Tim Dugger; Board Secretary, Karla Hanson; and student representative, Mattie Hallberg.
Motion by Marti Post, seconded by Danielle Schlake, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Josh Grau, seconded by Danielle Schlake, to approve the consent items from the agenda as follows:

Bills against the district as listed: General Fund: $94,102.49, Food Service: $29,212.38, Activity Fund: $41,130.11, Capital Projects: $21,838.14, PPEL: 73,894.79, Preschool: $0.00, Little Bulldogs: $4,4,28.09, Dr. Smith: $1,962.50
The secretary’s report, activity report and food service report will be filed subject to audit.
Motion carried unanimously.
Trent Miene, Transportation Director, addressed the Board with concerns regarding the postponement of the bus barn project. The current facilities were built in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Buses have nearly doubled in size since that time. Leaks in the shop, plumbing issues, lack of hot water and service pit issues are just a few of the concerns. Every child in the district utilizes transportation provided by the district at some point.

Dr. Moser opened the Budget Hearing at 6:09 p.m. (Iowa Code 24.9). Tim Dugger gave a budget overview. The Budget Hearing closed at 6:13 p.m.
Motion by Danielle Schlake, second by Tonya Meyer, to approve the FY27 Budget as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion Danielle Schlake, seconded by Josh Grau, to approve the change of the last day of school from May 28, 2026, to May 22, 2026. This is possible because the number of required hours (1,080) will be met early. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Marti Post, seconded by Aaron Schroeder, to move the following policies to the 2nd reading: 700 Purpose of Non Instructional and Business Services, 701.1 Depository of Funds, 701.2 Transfer of Funds, 701.3 Financial Records, 701.4 Governmental Accounting Practices and Regulations, 701.5 Fiscal Management, 701.5R1 Fiscal Management – Financial Metrics, 702 Cash in School Buildings, 703.1 Budget Planning, 704.1 Local-State-Federal-Miscellaneous Revenue, 704.2 Debt Management, 704.2R1 Debt Management-Post-Issuance Compliance Regulations. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Roberta Hass, seconded by Danielle Schlake, to approve the second and final reading of the following policies: 601.2 School Day, 602.1 Curriculum Development, 602.2 Curriculum Implementation, 602.3 Curriculum Evaluation, 602.4 Pilot-Experimental-Innovative Projects, 603.2 Summer School Instruction, 603.3 Special Education, 603.6 Physical Education, 603.7 Career Education, 603.8 Teaching About Religion, 603.8R1 Teaching About Religion Regulation-Religious Holidays, 603.9 Academic Freedom, 603.9R1 Teaching Controversial Issues, 603.10 Global Education, 603.11 Citizenship, 603.12 Postsecondary Education Counseling, 604.1 Private Instruction, 604.2 Individualized Instruction, 604.3 Program for Talented and Gifted Students, 604.4 Program for At-Risk Students. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Aaron Schroeder, seconded by Tonya Meyer to approve Board Policy 213. The policy will state that anyone wishing to be placed on the agenda must notify the Board Secretary at least 12 hours prior to the posted meeting time. Previously, the policy required a two-business day notice. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Roberta Hass, seconded by Tonya Meyer, to approve the 28E Agreements with NICC/Clayton County Alternative School and Iowa Local Government Risk Pool. Motion carried unanimously.
REPORTS:
Mattie Hallberg, Student Representative, reported on the following: seniors have one month left, Mental Health Day will be April 22, Food Truck will be on-site, freshmen tours, student council officer elections.
Larry Meyer, High School Principal, reported the following: eleven new NHS members, conferences, speech & music competitions, Easter break, intruder drill, officiating class for high school students, Reality 101 for seniors.
Brett Jackson, Middle School Principal, shared the following: Eagle Bluff fundraiser sold 2,400 pizzas – thank you Dollar Fresh and 6th grade teachers for all the hard work they put into this, ISASP testing, Step-Up Day for 3rd graders to visit McGregor, 8th graders will go to Monona, and Donuts with Grown-ups was a success.
Abbey Cottrell, Elementary Assistant Principal: library visits, Mystery Readers program, Circus themed reading month, 95% attendance at conferences, dance party, lots of field trips and picnics planned for last weeks of school, Preschool Fun Night, ISASP.
Tim Dugger, Superintendent: Budget work is finished, working on projects for summer and next school year, watching legislative updates, preparing for May 17 graduation.
Dr. Moser closed the Regular Meeting at 6:43 p.m.
The Board went into exempt session per Iowa Code 20.17(3) at 6:46 p.m. to review bargaining strategies. Dr. Moser closed the exempt session at 7:08 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be held on May 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Monona Center Learning Commons.
