Three-Vehicle Collision

On June 29, 2024, at 9:09PM, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office received a report of a three-vehicle collision at the construction stop light on Hwy. 150 in the City of Fayette.  When Deputies and responders arrived, it was learned that a 2005 Grand Prix driven by 56-year-old Paul Brian Damge of Windsor Heights, was driving southbound on Hwy. 150 and did not slow down for the construction stop light at the beginning of the bridge construction.  Damge’s vehicle rear-end a 2023 Ford Maverick, operated by 61-year-old Roger Post of Fayette.  Post’s vehicle was sitting at the red light before the bridge, waiting for traffic to pass.  After the initial collision occurred, Damge’s vehicle then went into the oncoming traffic and collided with a 2014 Chevy Express Van, that was operated by Antonio De Jesus Herrera Aranda, from Eldora, causing it to enter the ditch.  Three patients were transported from the scene to Palmer Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.  Damge’s and Post’s vehicles were considered a total loss, and Herrera Aranda’s vehicle sustained functional damage.  Paul Damge was charged with Failure to Stop An Assured Clear Distance.  Antonio De Jesus Herrera Aranda was charged with Operating in Iowa Without a Valid Driver’s License.  The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are pending.  The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Fayette Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Fayette Fire Department, Fayette Ambulance, West Union Fire Department, and Gundersen Ambulance.
