(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation has approved only 11 traffic cameras across five cities. They have denied 128 requests. Local cities whose requests for camera permits were denied include: Fayette, Oelwein, Postville, Strawberry Point, and West Union. This decision stems from a new state law requiring cities to justify their use of such cameras. The law aims to ensure that traffic cameras are used appropriately for safety rather than revenue generation.
