Truck Driving Fatality Sentence


A Missouri man has been sentenced to 120 days in prison in relation to a 2023 incident in Volga, IA, in which two men fell off the tailgate of a truck he was driving. According to KCRG, Tucker Baker of St. Joseph, MO, was 24-years-old at the time in 2023 when he was driving a GMC Sierra with seven people onboard, and two fell off the tailgate. Video footage from witnesses showed the GMC Sierra and two other trucks rapidly accelerating when the two individuals fell off the tailgate from where they were sitting. The two men were identified as 24-year-old William Gross and 21-year-old Brett Gross, both of St. Joseph, MO. Both were taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. William Gross ultimately passed away from his injuries. Baker was initially charged with Homicide by Vehicle - Reckless Driving and Serious Injury by Vehicle, but he later pleaded guilty to lesser charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless Driving.
