Two People injured in accident in Winneshiek County and a Postville Man Arrested After Incident During Parade in Calmar

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Winneshiek County. The accident occurred on August 10th at 3:21pm. 64-year old Marsha Kay Bergey of Harmony, Minnesota was operating a 2011 Lincoln SUV on County Road A-18. Bergey entered the roadway to cross Highway 52 and did not see a 2026 Ford Bronco operated by 27-year old Alyse Otto Howard of Winona, Minnesota. The vehicles collided and the Bergey vehicle entered the ditch. Both Bergey and Howard had minor injuries and were taken by WinnMed Ambulance to the emergency department at WinnMed Hospital. Damage totaled 25-thousand dollars. Bergey was charged with Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.

Incident Details: A Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office deputy was parked, with emergency lights on, blocking traffic on Highway 52, northwest of Ossian for a parade. A vehicle driving too fast was approaching the deputy’s vehicle and attempting to drive around the deputy’s vehicle. The deputy stepped out of his vehicle and motioned for the driver to stop. Subsequently, the driver, Thomas Benson was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for Serious Misdemeanor Operating While Under the Influence.
