Incident Details: Deputies responded to a residence on Pike Street in Calmar for a welfare check. Subsequently, Matthew Boehmler and Dawn Peterson were located at the residence.
Matthew Boehmler (31) was charged with D Felony Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)– 3rd or subsequent and Simple Misdemeanor Providing False Identification Information. Boehmler has outstanding arrest warrants out of Black Hawk County on several previous charges.
Dawn Peterson (22) was charged with Serious Misdemeanor Possession of Controlled Substance (Marijuana) and Simple Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Both Boehmler and Peterson were arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail.

Incident/Charge: Serious Misdemeanor Domestic Abuse Assault – Injury or Mental Illness

Incident Details: On September 15, 2024, the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office responded WinnMed to investigate an assault that had previously occurred. Subsequently, Scott Hill was arrested and transported to the Winneshiek County Jail for serious misdemeanor domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness, first offense.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Decorah Police Department charged John Westby (70) of Mabel, Minnesota with serious misdemeanor eluding and cited him for reckless driving.

Incident Details: The Winneshiek County Communications Center received a call from the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office advising of a suicidal male subject with a firearm in the WinnMed parking lot. WinnMed was immediately placed on lockdown during the duration of the event.
Law Enforcement was able to make contact with the subject by phone and negotiation attempts were made. The subject fled in his truck and eluded from Winneshiek County Law Enforcement. During the pursuit, several attempts were made by the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Decorah Police Department to stop the vehicle. Ultimately, the deputies and officers were able to box the vehicle in on the overpass on Highway 52 near Madison Road and safely bring the vehicle to a stop. The subject was taken into custody without incident and the firearms in the vehicle were recovered. The subject was then taken by law enforcement to WinnMed for further evaluation.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Decorah Police Department have several charges pending from this incident. More details on the charges will be released later. No additional information will be released at this time.

Incident details: RYAN TUPPER was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail on an arrest warrant for VIOLATION OF PAROLE.
Winnehshiek County Authorities released details of a three-vehicle accident. The accident occurred on September 15th at 5:07pm on Highway 52. 34-year old Drew Michael Johnson of Dodge Center, Minnesota was operating a 2006 GMC Straight Truck southbound. Johnson did not see a 2001 Chevrolet Truck operated by 64-year old Jonathon Lynn Hougen of Decorah, who was stopped waiting to turn left. The Hougen vehicle was waiting for a 2015 Hyundai Sport operated by 19-year old Cora Jayne Fisher of Decorah to pass by before turning left into County Express. The Johnson vehicle collided with the Hougen vehicle, which then spun into the Fisher vehicle. Hougen and Fisher received minor injuries, Johnson was not injured. Damage totaled over 15-thousand. The accident remains under investigation.
