Incident/Charge: Simple Misdemeanor Abandonment of Cats and Dogs – No injury.

Incident Details: Deputies responded to a residence in Burr Oak on Legacy Road, where two dogs were abandoned.  The owner, Andrew Makela, was contacted and he made admissions of not being at the residence and had no timeline on when he was returning.  Andrew Makela was charged with simple misdemeanor abandonment of cats and dogs – no injury and given a court date to appear. Following this incident, other concerned citizens assumed care of the dogs.


Winneshiek County Authorities released information on a one-vehicle accident that occured on April 28th at 4:54am. 46-year old Pedro Emilio Mendoza Alvarado of Chicago was operating a 2013 Ford F-150 westbound on Frankville Road. Alavardo swerved to miss a deer and the vehicle went into the north ditch, struck a culvert, and went airborne into an Alliant Energy power pole causing the pole to break. Alvarado left the scene and was later located in Postville, where Authorities learned that the front grill located in the roadway near the scene matched the damage to his truck. Alvarado was not injured, damage totaled eight-thousand dollars. He was charged with failure to maintain control.
