The Clayton County Board of Supervisors will write a letter to the Department of Natural Resources in regards to a permit request from Pattison Sand Company in Clayton to increase its annual water usage. The company uses nearly one-billion gallons of water a year. If approved, the permit would allow them to use up to 3.7-billion gallons a year. At a meeting last month, many spoke against the proposal with concerns on the effect on the local wells and questions on how will the water be used. The Supervisors are asking for more clarification on the permit application, including the monitoring, volume, and environmental assessment plans. The DNR is currently in a 90-day review of the application looking into concerns and a written comment portion is also continuing.
