Decorah Bicycle Accident

A Decorah woman was seriously injured when her bicycle was struck by a vehicle. The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department reports that 63-year old Sarah Jane Haugen was injured in the accident. The accident occurred on August 7^th at 2:34pm. Haugen was traveling near 2870 Locust Road when she was struck by a 2021 Buick Encore operated by 87-year old Burton Carroll Gavle of Decorah. Gavle stated that he thought he had moved over enough to avoid the bicycle. Haugen was transported to the WinMed ER for suspected serious injuries. Gavle was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.
