Fayette County Authorities arrest Waterloo man on Felony Warrant and an Onslow man arrested after pursuit and foot chase

On February 10, 2026, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office arrested Nycholas Dakota John Thompson, age 18 of Waterloo, on a valid Fayette County Felony Warrant for Failure to Appear on charges of: Controlled Substance Violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, Child Endangerment, and 3 Counts of Burglary 3rd Degree. Thompson was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he is being held on a $15,000 cash only bond and awaits an initial appearance from a Magistrate Judge. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.

On February 10th, 2026, at approximately 8:08 PM the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious person in the 3000 block of T Ave, Oelwein, IA. At approximately 8:20 PM, a Fayette County Deputy located the described suspicious vehicle in the 16000 block of T Ave. The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for an observed traffic violation, and the vehicle attempted to flee. It was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen and after an approximate 20-mile pursuit and subsequent foot chase, Jacob Allan Ahlrichs (age 39) of Onslow, IA, was placed under arrest. Jacob was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was charged with the following: Eluding – Speed 25+ Over Limit, (D Felony), Theft 2nd Degree (D Felony), Reckless Driving and Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). This incident remains under investigation and more charges are pending.
