Fayette County Authorities Release Information on Minor Accident and an Arrest
On August 15th, 2026, at approximately 3:55 pm the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle accident on Harding Rd near the intersection of Ironwood Rd. West Union. Upon deputies’ arrival it was learned that Carolyn Rae Moritz, 85 of West Union was traveling west bound on Harding Rd. when she hit the shoulder and lost control of her vehicle. No injuries were reported and the vehicle sustained minor damage. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Big Rig Service and Repair of West Union. The accident remains under investigation.
On 8-15-26, at approximately 3:00AM, Timothy John Birmingham, 44 of Hawkeye, was arrested on a Fayette County arrest warrant for parole violation original charge Theft 1st Degree. Birmingham was taken into custody and transported to Fayette County Jail where he was held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
