Fayette County Releases

On May 31st, 2025, at approximately 5 PM, a Fayette County Deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Main Street and E State Street in Fayette, IA. After further investigation, James David Fitzgerald (age 36) of Maynard, IA was placed under arrest for Operating While under the Influence – 1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor. Fitzgerald was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was held for an initial appearance.

 

On May 31st, 2025, at approximately 9:15 PM, Fayette County Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person call in Arlington, IA due to this male entering a residence and appearing to be intoxicated. Upon Deputy arrival, a traffic stop made and after further investigation, Timothy James Wright (age 58) of Oelwein, IA was placed under arrest for Operating While under the Influence – 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.  Wright was transported to the Fayette County Jail and held for an initial appearance.

 

On June 4th, 2025, at approximately 3:43 PM, was called to a residence to investigate a possible harassment call in Hawkeye, IA. The Deputy arrived at the residence prior to Jennifer Lynn Herman’s arrival at the residence where an investigation revealed that the driver, Jennifer Lynn Herman showed signs of impairment. After further investigation Jennifer Lynn Herman (age 43) was placed under arrest for Operating While under the Influence – 1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor. She was transported to the Fayette County jail where she was held for an initial appearance.

 

On June 7, 2025, at 10:32 AM the Fayette County Sheriff's Office was notified of a hit and run accident on Franklin Street in the city of Elgin.  When a deputy arrived, it was learned that a 2020 Toyota Corolla owned by 66-year-old Gail Heying of Calmar, was parked on Franklin Street and was sideswiped by a white 4-door car.  After further investigation, the car was located nearby and identified as a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis, operated by 77-year-old Karla Colson.  Upon investigation, it was determined that Colson was unaware that she struck another vehicle.  This incident remains under investigation.
