FAYETTE TAKO ICE FISHING AT BUEHLALAND CHRISTIAN CAMP NEAR ELGIN ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7th, 2026

Ice fishing is a great family way to enjoy winter and spend some time with nature…plus maybe catch a few bluegills or a nice bass. On Saturday morning, February 7th, the Fayette County Take A Kid Outdoors (TAKO) chapter is sponsoring their free annual ice fishing event at the Buehlaland Christian Camp. Helpers, plus some fishing equipment and bait will be provided, or feel free to bring your own. Located between Elgin and east of West Union, the address is 22473 Abbey Rd. Elgin. TAKO volunteers will have signs posted on Hwy 56 to direct attendees to the camp. Should ice and/or weather conditions get marginal, contact TAKO President Leif White at 319-939-1567 for updates.

Registration will begin after 8am at the main lodge and continue until 1pm. A warm, free will lunch will be provided, with the proceeds donated to the Buehlaland Christian Camp for their camp expenses. A number of volunteers are bringing tents to protect against the weather .For those who have never been there, it offers many outdoor camping activities. TAKO reminds those attending that parents or guardians must remain with their children. For those who are new to ice fishing, volunteers will be on hand to help drill holes and instruct families the art and fun of ice fishing. Founded in 2006. Fayette TAKO schedules many outdoor events during the year to better educate kids about nature and its world.
