June is Dairy Month

June Dairy Month is an annual nationwide celebration observed every June to highlight the nutritional benefits of dairy products and recognize the contributions of dairy farmers.

The History and Purpose

The tradition originally started as "National Milk Month" in 1937 as a clever way to distribute surplus milk during the high-production summer months. By 1939, it was officially expanded to "June Dairy Month" to recognize all dairy products like cheese, butter, and ice cream. Today, it promotes the USDA dietary guidelines, which recommend three daily servings of dairy to help build strong bones and teeth.
