When you shop at Wilke’s Marketplace in Elkader, you have the opportunity to help the Clayton County Food Shelf. All you have to do is buy a bag that is filled with items for the food shelf...such as canned goods, pet food, health and beauty supplies, after school snacks, and other necessities. Store Manager Ray Delacruz says his employees at the store came up with the idea
Clayton County Food Shelf Coordinator Utoni Ruff says she really appreciates business such as Wilke’s Marketplace helping the food shelf collect the needed items so they can continue serving Clayton County families
The promotion is nearing 1,000 bags bought by the customers and donated to the food shelf, which Utoni says equates to 4,859 pounds of food, and that brings the total donated by Wilke’s Marketplace to nearly 25 thousand pounds. Their generosity has become contagious, resulting in other community organizations, businesses and individuals partnering with the store to donate to the food shelf with items they purchased at Wilke's Marketplace.
Ray says when they sell bag number 1,000, they plan to give away a 100 dollar gift certificate to be used in the store.
