Mary Ann C. Schulte, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on July 18, 1935, in Worthington, the daughter of Walter and Lucinda (Recker) Gudenkauf. Mary Ann was raised in rural Ryan and graduated from St. Patrick’s School in Ryan in 1953. After graduation she helped raise her brothers and sisters until she was married.
On May 29, 1956, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Edward Schulte at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. Three daughters were born to this union, Julie Ann, Jane Marie, and Jacqueline Kay. They farmed together on the Schulte family farm east of Manchester until moving to a farm in Prairie Township in 1968. The couple retired to Manchester in 1996. Mary Ann also worked part-time at Bern’s & Nelson’s Jewelry Stores and volunteered at the Regional Medical Center’s Gift Shop. In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge and aerobics with Dr. Mary. Above all, Mary Ann loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three daughters, Julie (Tom) Schechtman of Greeley, Jane (Richard) Quint of Ryan, and Jackie (Randy) Mormann of Manchester; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Recker, Sara (Saul) Muniz, Jeffrey (Karla) Schechtman, Ben (Erin) Quint, Marty (Lindsey) Quint, Rachel (Bryan) Kuhn, Blake (Dana) Mormann, Mitch Mormann, and Molly (Colton) Wegmann; 19 great-grandchildren, Ruby, Maggie, and Leah Recker, Caden, Chase, and Jake Muniz, Charlotte, JoAnna and Isla Schechtman, Olivia, Evelyn, Claire, and Hazel Quint, Korbin, Briella, and Aria Quint, Kaleb and Kaden Kuhn, Hesston Wegmann, and two more on the way; siblings, Raymond (Sally) Gudenkauf of Ryan, Elmer “Jerry” (Dianne) Gudenkauf of Elizabeth, Colorado, Grace Pruss of Marion, and Alice Sperfslage of Strawberry Point.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Edward in 2019; brothers Gerald (Ann) Gudenkauf, Lester (Marian) Gudenkauf, and Dennis (Judy) Gudenkauf; brother-in-law Lawrence Sperfslage; and sister-in-law Judy Gudenkauf.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.
