The Northern Lights Women’s Chorus will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at Decorah Lutheran Church. The 45-member ensemble, composed of singers from Decorah and 11 other communities, will perform a variety of beautiful choral music with the theme “Love Through the Generations.” Aurora, a treble choir from Luther College directed by Dr. Adrianna Tam, is the special guest ensemble.

Many of the song lyrics speak to feelings of love, be they be for a romantic partner, such as “Think on Me,” “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” “Love’s Tempest,” and “Danny Boy,” or for beloved family members, such as “Turn Around” arranged by René Clausen and “Music in my Mother’s House.” God’s love and care for us are explored in “Come to Me” by Dan Forrest.

Aurora will perform two pieces, “I Will Arise and Go” by Shawn Kirchner and “If You Want to Go” by Philip E. Silvey. They will combine with Northern Lights to perform “Liebst du um Schӧnheit” (If You Love for Beauty) by Clara Schumann and “Always Coming Home” by Joan Szymko.

Several instrumentalists will join Northern Lights, including Emily Secor on cello and bass, Carrie McCartney-Vincent on soprano saxophone, and Solveig Kleppe on French horn. Vocalists from area high schools will present intermission music. During intermission, a freewill offering will be taken, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Winneshiek County Public Health and Wings of Refuge, a statewide nonprofit that assists victims of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Bethany Engen is the choir’s artistic director, and collaborative pianist is Mary Beth Bouska.

Decorah Lutheran Church is located at 309 Winnebago St., Decorah, Iowa. For more information, visit the choir’s Facebook page. Or email northernlightsdecorah@gmail.com.
