Prairie du Chien, WI – Crossing Rivers Health is offering Quit & Stay Quit, a free seven-week tobacco and nicotine cessation class designed to help area residents stop smoking, vaping, and using tobacco products for good.

Classes will be held on seven consecutive Wednesday evenings from April 15 through May 27, 5:00–6:00 p.m., at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.

“Smoking contributes to one in five deaths in the United States due to health conditions such as asthma, cancer, heart disease, and stroke,” said Josalyn Benda, Respiratory Therapist at Crossing Rivers Health. “The good news is that quitting can begin to reverse some of the damage caused by smoking. In fact, the body starts healing almost immediately after someone stops using tobacco.”

Quit & Stay Quit encourages individuals to take the first step toward becoming tobacco-free — even if they have tried quitting before. Participants who experience a relapse are supported and encouraged to set a new quit date and try again.

“This class provides education on cessation medications, planning and preparation, coping strategies, stress and weight management, exercise, the benefits of quitting, and relapse prevention,” said McKenzie Schlee, Respiratory Therapy Manager at Crossing Rivers Health. “Most importantly, participants gain a strong support network. They’ll receive encouragement, practical tools, and resources to help them succeed.”

“As a smoker, vaper, or tobacco user, you may have attempted to quit before — perhaps as a New Year’s resolution or for a special occasion,” Benda added. “Relapse can be part of the journey. We want people to know they are not alone. It often takes multiple attempts to quit for good, but with the right support, lasting success is possible.”
