Rural Guttenberg man killed in single-vehicle accident in Clayton County

MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE - Driver Identified in Fatal Crash

Investigators have identified the driver involved as 53-year-old Steven Elsinger of rural Guttenberg. Elsinger was operating his white 2010 Ford Explorer at the time of the crash.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. No additional details are available at this time.


MEDIA RELEASE – FATAL SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH-UPDATE

On December 27th, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, the Clayton County Communication Center received a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Osterdock Road and Garber Road in rural Guttenberg.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2010 Ford Explorer was northbound on Osterdock Road when it failed to stop at the T-intersection of Osterdock Road and Garber Road. The vehicle subsequently left the roadway and overturned.

The driver, the solo occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the individual is being withheld currently pending notification of family members.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office on scene was Guttenberg Police Department, Guttenberg Ambulance Service, Guttenberg Fire Department, Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Rausch’s Towing.
