Walter Wesley Palmer, 84, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday November 16, 2024, at The Harrison of Oklahoma City. He was born on July 19, 1940, in Turkey River, Iowa, the oldest child of Donald and Dorothy (Kenyon) Palmer. Walter graduated from Manchester High School in 1958 and worked on the family farm prior to attending Iowa State University. He graduated from ISU in February 1966 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, with an emphasis on Civil Engineering
While in college he worked for the state of Iowa in an agricultural job. He fully intended to make a career of working for the state, but fate intervened. A month before he graduated from college, he attended a job fair at ISU, where he filled out some paperwork at a table for Schlumberger Oilfield Services. He had an interview and was offered a job! He and his young family moved to Wichita, Kansas, for his new job just one month after he graduated from college.
Walter worked as a petroleum engineer for Schlumberger for over 30 years prior to his retirement.
Walter enjoyed building things and was an accomplished woodworker. He created beautiful wood furniture and cabinetry all his adult life. After his retirement, Walter enjoyed travel, watching sports and gardening.
Walter was united in marriage to Nancy Sue Livingston on December 27, 1964, at First Methodist Church in Montezuma, Iowa.
Walter was united in marriage to Barbara Royena (Fisher) Williams on April 27, 1996, at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his two children, Karen (Scott) Arrowood, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Mark (Jeana) Palmer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Blake Palmer, Garrett Palmer, Rhys Arrowood, Rachel Arrowood; four siblings, Clark (Dorothy) Palmer of Manchester, Donna (Ed) Mangold of Denver, Colorado, Bonnie (Gene) Milton of Washburn, and Laura (Steve) Noone of Tempe, Arizona; Barbara’s children, Lezlee (David) Price of Parkville, Missouri and Melissa Williams of Kansas City, Missouri; Barbara’s grandchildren (Amanda Price, Erin (Ryan) Sheets, Anne Price, Emily Munoz, Sophia Munoz)
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Palmer

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with Rev. Mike Jackson officiating.
Visitation: 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m., on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester.
Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa
